Franklin County, Idaho Information
Franklin County is a county located in the U.S. state of Idaho. As of the 2000 Census the county had a population of 11,329 (2008 estimate: 12,454).[1] The county seat and largest city is Preston.[2] Franklin County is part of the Logan, Utah-Idaho Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Established in 1913, Franklin County was named after Franklin D. Richards, an Apostle of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints,[3] and it is the only Franklin County in the United States that is not named after Benjamin Franklin.
The Bear River Massacre took place in present day Franklin County on January 29, 1863.

According to the 2000 census, the county has a total area of 668.36 square miles (1,731.0 km2), of which 665.43 square miles (1,723.5 km2) (or 99.56%) is land and 2.92 square miles (7.6 km2) (or 0.44%) is water.[4]

As of the census[6] of 2000, there were 11,329 people, 3,476 households, and 2,874 families residing in the county. The population density was 17 people per square mile (7/km²). There were 3,872 housing units at an average density of 6 per square mile (2/km²). The racial makeup of the county was 95.11% White, 0.11% Black or African American, 0.29% Native American, 0.14% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 3.42% from other races, and 0.89% from two or more races. 5.22% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. 34.6% were of English, 15.2% American, 9.1% Danish and 8.8% German ancestry according to Census 2000.
There were 3,476 households out of which 48.00% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 73.60% were married couples living together, 5.80% had a female householder with no husband present, and 17.30% were non-families. 16.00% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.90% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.24 and the average family size was 3.64.
In the county the population was spread out with 37.30% under the age of 18, 9.30% from 18 to 24, 24.20% from 25 to 44, 17.50% from 45 to 64, and 11.70% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 28 years. For every 100 females there were 99.40 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.30 males.
The median income for a household in the county was $36,061, and the median income for a family was $40,185. Males had a median income of $30,071 versus $21,077 for females. The per capita income for the county was $13,702. About 5.40% of families and 7.40% of the population were below the poverty line, including 8.00% of those under age 18 and 5.30% of those age 65 or over.
